Private Tutoring by Steve

Online Tutoring with Steve.

Steve offers online one-on-one tutoring via video call for students anywhere in DFW or beyond. Online sessions cover the same subjects as in person tutoring: math (kindergarten through calculus), statistics, reading, and Python computer programming.

How does online tutoring work?

Steve sends a video-call link, the student joins from a laptop, desktop, tablet, or phone, and the two work together on a shared whiteboard or the student's own screen. There is nothing to install. The session structure is the same as in person: short warm-up, current homework or chapter, practice, recap.

What you need to get started

  • A laptop, desktop, tablet, or phone with a working camera and microphone.
  • Reasonable home internet connection.
  • A quiet space and something to write on (paper or a tablet).

Online vs. in-person: Does online work as well?

Yes, for most students. One-on-one is one-on-one whether the tutor is sitting across the table or on a video call. The cases where in-person is the better fit are early elementary students who need help staying focused, often by playing educational games that have phyical pieces, and students who really benefit from working physically alongside someone. For everyone else, online is a great option, especially for families outside Steve's driving range in North Texas.

Steve's home base is Burleson, TX. Online sessions are how he sometimes serves families in areas such as Mansfield, Cleburne, south Fort Worth, and beyond, and he also tutors in person at the location of the student's choice in many of those areas.

Common online tutoring questions

How does online tutoring work?
Sessions happen by video call. Steve sends a link, the student joins from a laptop, desktop, tablet, or phone with a camera and microphone, and they share a virtual whiteboard or the student's screen. The structure of the session is the same as in-person: warm-up, work through the current material, practice problems, recap.
Is online tutoring as effective as in-person?
For most students, yes. The thing that drives results in tutoring is one-on-one attention from a tutor who is paying attention to where the student is stuck. That carries over the video call cleanly. Online sessions are sometimes even better for older students who are comfortable with screens.
What do I need for online sessions?
A laptop, desktop, tablet, or phone with a working camera and microphone. A reasonable internet connection. A quiet spot and something to write on, paper or a tablet, so the student can take notes and work on practice problems.
Can you tutor outside of Texas?
Yes. Online sessions work for students anywhere in the United States, and in fact anywhere in the world. In addition to Steve's online students in DFW, Steve has tutored online students in California, Indiana, Nevada, New York, South Carolina, Wisconsin, and even Brazil.
