About Steve.
Steve is the founder and sole tutor at Private Tutoring by Steve in Burleson, TX. He has been tutoring math, statistics, reading, and Python computer programming one-on-one since 2021.
How Steve got started tutoring
I started tutoring my classmates when I was in high school and college, and started tutoring in earnest in 2021. My tutoring philosophy is to patiently accept my students where they're at without judging them, while constantly encouraging them to reach ever higher levels of expertise by helping them gain skills and confidence. I make extensive use of analogies to hobbies and interests of my students, and ensure that all of my students have mastered the fundamentals, so that they have the proper foundation to excel.
Steve's teaching approach
Every session is one-on-one. Steve does not run a rigid fixed program. He uses each student's own textbook, current homework, and upcoming tests, as well as Steve's own supplementary resources, educational games for younger students, and educational websites as the material, and he builds the lesson around where the student is actually stuck. He does not move on until the concept clicks with a student.
That patience is usually the difference between tutoring that "feels like more school" and tutoring that builds confidence. Most students start feeling more at home in the subject within a few sessions.
Subjects and qualifications
Steve covers:
- Math: from grade school math (K-5) through AP and college calculus.
- Reading for elementary and middle school students.
- Python computer programming for high school, college, and adult learners.
Steve has a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree in Computer Science and a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science.
